Trouble with my Sleep Schedule

I've had trouble keeping a normal sleep schedule since I retired.  I sleep well but I keep really weird hours.  So I thought I'd share a couple of jokes/cartoons about the problem.

My problem is not with my sleep, it is with the hours my body has chosen for its new rhythm.  After years of working and motherhood when you had to be up and gone and someplace at some time, I just can't get over feeling guilty about not keeping "normal" hours.  What difference does it make I keep telling myself?

  1. I'm sorry. Has it been going on for long?

  2. I sleep pretty well, which I attribute to keeping regular hours and ... not having a TV in the bedroom, but reading every night for 15 - 30 minutes, which is guaranteed to put me right out. But B sometimes has trouble, even though she keeps the same schedule. Don't ask me why. Could it be a male vs. female thing? It just seems that's one thing men do very well ... sleep!

  3. I'll trade ya! Happy dog wakes me at 5a even if I have no where to be. :-(
Then after her morning constitution and breakfast she takes a long nap. Me? I can't go back to sleep and am dragging through out my day.

  4. -sigh- Well, as long as you get your needed sleep, and feel rested, what difference does it make, when those hours are?

    Right?

Just so glad you are not bedeviled with insomnia.

  5. I had a terrible time sleeping the last few years that I was working and that carried over into retirement. I think I have it sorted out now, though. I noticed that the time stamp on your post says 1:20 AM. Now that reinforces your post!

  6. I have the same problem when my hubby is away. I stay up way too late and sleep in too late. I'm a true night owl. BUT, it really is better for our bodies to hit the hay by 11:00. Melatonin production and cortisol and all that good stuff is affected when we stay up too late. Would that motivate you to get to bed earlier? Heh heh. ;)

  7. Good grief. I found these things help me sleep better. Drink plenty of water during the day. Drink a milky drink before bed. Also, don't read from an electronic device just before bedtime. good luck.

  8. I am exhausted at 10pm. I make it into bed and fall asleep, only to wake up at 2 am and cannot go back to sleep until around 6am when the kids need me up to take them to school. I'm sorry that you can't sleep, but I am glad I'm not alone! ;)
