I did a terrible thing ...

I tried to color my  hair this weekend.  Here is the before snap first.

Now here is the result.  Ready...

This color might not be so bad on some people but not people with my coloring.  I looked up information about removing hair color and there are lots of articles.  I guess I'm not the only one who has made a hair color mistake.

I have to laugh.  It is soooo bad.  I can say it.  I can take the comments.  It is only temporary right?  It will grow out.

As soon as my hair heals a little bit, I will go see if I can have the color stripped or dyed brown.  If not, I'll be wearing a pixie haircut this summer.  Hahaha.

Expert advice will be accepted and appreciated.

  1. Oh Barbara, if it makes you feel any better my mother once gave me a perm and with my hard to hold a curl hair we used small rollers. I looked like a French Poodle for months. ;)
A good stylist should be able to strip the color off and re dye your hair for you. I gave up trying to color mine years ago because nothing, not home or professional color would cover all my stubborn grays. I embrace it now and I think you should too because your natural color is simply beautiful!

  2. I like your natural color but the dye looks pretty too. Next time just try a 24 wash dye if you want to experiment. (They are getting hard to find in stores though). Give it time, it will eventually grow out. I tried permanent hair dye a couple decades ago. I used to look at my roots each morning after, that grow in very quick, so I decided the stress was not for me! ha. Andrea

  3. I love your grey hair! But... What I did when I was coloring my hair (my natural color is white) was to find a very light ash type blond so the white hair growing in didn't show for a while. Then I didn't have to color it as often. If you really want to color your hair, do it in a color that will be nearer to your natural color. Maybe even a "frosted" type coloring. More time between coloring. But I love your hair and your hair cut and I'd go back to natural if I had your hair. :)

(You didn't show a face shot, though. The red is really pretty!)

  4. I don't think it's bad, but you are the one who has to wear it. I always remind myself that it will grow out. Maybe it will grow on you over time.

  6. It probably doesn't look as bad as you think, but if you realy hate it, a professional can fix.

  7. Barbara I happen to love the before photo. :-)
But I have used Oops! when my gray"section" picked up the new color of brown and made it an awful shade of beige. I used this smelling stuff that I got at walmart. I have not used it on my whole head and would prefer a professional since stripping ones hair can break it. Or in the mean time, wear hats. :-) I bet you look great in hats.

  8. My expert advice is leave the grey alone. You look great with grey hair. Or you could go lavender like my granddaughter.

  9. I actually think you look very beautiful with your natural hair color! Of course I can't really see what the 'new' color looks like but you're such a pretty woman I'm sure it looks lovely!

  10. Honestly, Barbara, I think your gray hair is gorgeous and you look beautiful in that before photo. I stopped coloring my hair last year and I'm so glad I did. I've totally embraced my gray hair and my family loves it, too. Hugs, Nancy
